Enamel pin DIEVS
Triangles with three dots are very common in Baltic jewelry since the late stone age. An upward-pointed triangle is associated with the sky - it symbolizes the sky vault and the dots mark the sun's movement. Dievs ("Dievas" in Lithuanian, "Deiws" in Prussian, "Deva" in Sanskrit) is a sky deity and creator of the world. He represents the day, light, knowledge and power of the masculine force. He is considered to be the highest deity in Baltic mythology and he is also ancient - this shows in his name which can be tracked all the way back to the ancient Indoeuropean language.
This pin is my own modern rendition of ornaments found on archeological artifacts in the Baltic region. Each pin is accompanied by a little descriptive booklet telling you the story of its origins. (In English & Latvian).
The size is 30 x 21mm (1.18 x 0.82 in)
