Enamel pin MĀRA
Triangles with three dots are very common in Baltic jewelry since the late stone age. While an upward-pointed triangle is associated with the sky, a downwards pointed triangle symbolizes mother Earth or Māra in Latvian mythology. She is associated with the black color which signifies fertility in many cultures, and a downwards pointed triangle is also a symbol of the womb - an origin of life.
This pin is my own modern rendition of ornaments found on archeological artifacts in the Baltic region. Each pin is accompanied by a little descriptive booklet telling you the story of its origins. (In English & Latvian).
The size is 30 x 21mm (1.18 x 0.82 in)
