A solar symbol that can be found in the territory of Latvia since the 3rd century and is well known in all continents – completely unrelated people from various ends of the world have chosen to depict the eternal movement of sun, sky and the world in this way. But in the Baltic region more diverse and complex variations can be found than elsewhere. In the shawl of Stāmeriena (12th c.) alone 20 variations of the firecross can be found. At the beginning the symbol was used as an amulet but with time as it became more elaborated it became a sign of prosperity.
Latvian and Baltic ornaments are a crucial part of the Baltic culture and have deep symbolic meanings and can be worn as amulets. Perfect for your jacket, battle vest, bag, or as a collectible. Each patch comes with a description of the symbol’s meaning and magic protection - wrapped in paper inscribed with Latvian protective travel spell as recorded in Vecmuiža, Jēkabpils district, at the beginning of the 20th century.
