A very beloved ornament and animal – it was often kept at home as a blessing and it was believed that it can communicate with the realm of the dead. It is also one of shapes of the shapeshifting mother earth – Māra. This ornament dates back to the iron age and was especially popular with the Curonian tribes. The grass snake is considered to be a symbol of wisdom because it displays the concept of the world – two opposites – up and and down, the feminine and the masculine – are all united into one flow.
Latvian and Baltic ornaments are a crucial part of the Baltic culture and have deep symbolic meanings and can be worn as amulets. Perfect for your jacket, battle vest, bag, or as a collectible. Each patch comes with a description of the symbol’s meaning and magic protection - wrapped in paper inscribed with Latvian protective travel spell as recorded in Vecmuiža, Jēkabpils district, at the beginning of the 20th century.
