In the Latvian tradition the fir or the needle ornament is linked to the goddess of destiny Laima and her main tool – her broom. Needles and coniferous trees symbolize enernity and the world tree therefore they are present in all the important festivities of life, and the fir ornament in the Baltics dates back to the Mesolithic stone age period. This ornament shows a pronounced rythm and direction which makes one to associate it with the flow of time and destiny. Life becomes easier and smoother when following in the footsteps of Laima.
Latvian and Baltic ornaments are a crucial part of the Baltic culture and have deep symbolic meanings and can be worn as amulets. Perfect for your jacket, battle vest, bag, or as a collectible. Each patch comes with a description of the symbol’s meaning and magic protection - wrapped in paper inscribed with Latvian protective travel spell as recorded in Vecmuiža, Jēkabpils district, at the beginning of the 20th century.
