A circle symbolizes wholeness, harmony, and protection, therefore this shape ir so crucial in rituals. But we also associate the cricle with the giver of life and light – the sun. Untypically for indoeuropean people, the Balts see Sun as a feminine deity. In our climate sun can not burn and destroy but it warms and nurses. A circle with a dot is a special ornament for Balts – it appears during the Neolithic period, is widely used on jewelry during the iron age, and retains its popularity appearing in various forms in the ethnography of later times as well.
