patch ŪSIŅŠ
- Designed and produced in Latvia
- Carefully designed by me while listening to Baltic pagan metal
- approximately 5,5 x 5 cm
- sew-on application
One of the most mysterious Latvian deities. Written records from the 17th century show the relation between Ūsiņš and horses, spring and light. Ūsiņš is linked to this sign specifically because it shows stylized depiction of a horse drawn cart bringing the sun or three suns – morning, noon and evening – up the hill. In knitting this sign is also called “keys” but it is still linked to horses and traveling because mittens with this pattern were worn when setting off. Nowadays this sign is often hanged inside one’s car.
Latvian and Baltic ornaments are a crucial part of the Baltic culture and have deep symbolic meanings and can be worn as amulets. Perfect for your jacket, battle vest, bag, or as a collectible. Each patch comes with a description of the symbol’s meaning and magic protection - wrapped in paper inscribed with Latvian protective travel spell as recorded in Vecmuiža, Jēkabpils district, at the beginning of the 20th century.
