As one of the pieces from the “Latvian Tarot” cycle, this piece depicts a Baltic hermit inspired by the Hermit card from the Major Arcana. In the old days, before Christianity arrived on the Eastern Baltic coast, pagan priests, and seers prayed and sacrificed for the gods at altars within nature. No structures of churches or other sacred buildings have been found; instead, the ancient trees and stones served as temples. The appearance of the hermit in tarot usually shows that there is time for contemplation. This wanderer is the symbol of solitude, spiritual enlightenment and inner guidance.
