Livonian Mona Lisa
This illustration is a dedication to the Livonian tribe. These indigenous people inhabited the coastline of the gulf of Riga even before the Baltic tribes reached these shores. Although Livonians are a finno-ugric tribe, the close proximity to the Baltic people has made both cultures exchange a lot, including the language, the Livonians have left noticeable traces in the modern Latvian language and culture. The last native speaker of Livonian died in 2009 but there are still people who learn to speak Livonian and keep the culture alive.
The woman is wearing the typical clothing and jewelry a wealthy Livonian woman would have worn in the 10-12th century.
This is my own original artwork and has been painted digitally.
