The bark of a tree holds the imprints of its life and experience. This shirt is a tribute to the great Valdemārpils (Sasmaka) linden. It is the largest linden in the Baltics – with a circumference of 8.8 metres, and its age may reach up to 400 years. The linden has a unique form: it great branches spread out out low at the base and the branches wind like a labyrinth in different directions. The linden has suffered several times, most severely in 1967, when a a big storm broke off half of its trunk. Yet despite its wounds, the old tree continues to flourish and grow on the shore of Lake Sasmaka.

In Latvian folklore, especially in folk songs, trees often appear as totems. The linden embodies feminine energy – a giver of life and beauty.
