This shirt is a tribute to the Kaive Ancestral Oak, the thickest oak in the Baltics. Its circumference is 10.2 metres, and it takes as many as nine people to encircle it. It is hard to imagine how enormous this oak would be if lightning had not struck its crown 100 years ago. The oak is remarkably old, estimated to be between 500 and 1,000 years. It is also an ancient sacred site. It was customary to touch it before setting off on long journeys, and even today people visit the old tree to feel the strength of their ancestors and leave offerings.

In Latvian folklore, especially in folk songs, trees often appear as totems. The oak embodies masculine energy – a giver of life and strength.
